This presentation will cover his involvement in the Seneca Falls Convention\, his work with Susan B. Anthony and Ida B. Wells and the rifts and reconciliations that defined his lifelong commitment to equality. We’ll delve into the strategic disagreements\, personal bonds and enduring legacies of these remarkable partnerships that helped shape the suffrage movement.  \nAbout #DouglassWeek:\n#DouglassWeek is a collaborative event series celebrating the work and life of Frederick Douglass in different countries around the world. SUMMARY:Fabric for the Future: The Art of Voting
DESCRIPTION:Fabric for the Future: The Art of Voting celebrates Susan B. Anthony’s commitment to civic engagement and voting rights. The Monroe County Board of Elections will demo the new voting machines and will partner with the Anthony Museum for a voter registration pop-up. The Anthony Museum will also display a specially curated selection of quilt squares from its 2020 Quilt Project\, which was a collaborative public art project to honor women’s history and celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Over 325 quilt squares were submitted by people from people all over the United States and Canada. Each block represents a theme significant to the artist\, with a focus on the people\, places\, and events related to the woman’s suffrage movement or the unfinished business of securing equal rights for all. The book describes a case from 1862\, in which Mary Strong stunned her husband\, Peter\, by confessing to a two-year affair with his brother. Peter sued Mary for divorce for adultery―the only grounds in New York―but not before she accused him of forcing her into an abortion and having his own affair with the abortionist. DESCRIPTION:The suffrage movement was a masterclass in strategic communication\, demonstrating how powerful storytelling and visual messaging could transform public opinion and drive social change. Activists skillfully crafted narratives that humanized their struggle\, using innovative communication techniques to challenge deeply entrenched societal beliefs about women’s rights and political participation. \nThis panel will examine the use of public relations strategies and tactics\, as well as visual storytelling as a critical tool in the suffragists’ arsenal. From the strategic use of media relations strategies to provocative imagery\, women of the movement challenged prevailing stereotypes with every media tool imaginable to change prevailing public opinion. \nPurchase Tickets Here\n\n\nPANELISTS\n \nArien Rozelle\, APR\, is an assistant teaching professor in the public relations department at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Her research\, writing\, and professional presentations bridge theory with practice\, exploring the intersections of public relations and social movements\, diversity\, equity\, and inclusion\, activist pedagogy\, professional ethics\, and social media. Rozelle’s scholarship has been featured in the Journal of Public Relations Education and the Seneca Falls Dialogues Journal. Her chapter “Building Momentum: Creating Change” was published in the book Strategic Social Media as Activism (Routledge\, 2023). She is currently working on a Newhouse grant-funded project called “Communicate\, Agitate\, Motivate” which explores the role of public relations in the fight for women’s rights. In 2024\, the Public Relations Society of America Rochester Chapter named her Educator of the Year. \n\n \nRegina Luttrell\, Ph.D.\, is the Senior Associate Dean at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. An author\, scholar\, and administrative leader\, she is known for her expertise in social media\, public relations\, AI\, mis/disinformation\, feminism\, diversity\, and digital innovation. As an award-winning author\, Luttrell has written influential books such asWonder Woman: Warrior\, Disrupter\, Feminist Icon andSocial Media: How to Engage\, Share\, and Connect\, establishing her as a leading voice in modern communication. Her insights have been featured in top media outlets\, reaching a broad audience with her forward-thinking ideas. A dynamic speaker\, Luttrell engages audiences on topics ranging from social media trends to workplace empowerment. Her bookStrategic Social Media as Activism highlights how digital platforms drive social justice and amplify marginalized voices. With a strong background in corporate PR and marketing\, she connects technology and communication\, helping others leverage digital tools for meaningful change. \n\n \nCarrie Welch is an adjunct professor and technical writer in the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University as well as a public relations consultant. Her research interests include intersectional feminism and media representations\, and how artificial intelligence influences communication. Carrie has spent over 20 years in the communications industry\, previously co-owning a public relations agency\, Little Green Pickle\, and co-founding a food and drink festival\, Feast Portland\, both for 10 years. Her experience in starting these two companies drew on her 10-year career at Food Network where she served as Vice President of Public Relations. While there Carrie headed up all consumer press\, talent relations\, digital PR\, and charitable initiatives.

SUMMARY:2025 Wreath Hanging
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the National Susan B. Anthony Museum and House commemorates the date of Anthony’s death by hanging a wreath on the door of her long-time residence at 17 Madison Ave. The wreath hanging is followed by a brief\, public address by a member of the Museum’s staff. \nSusan B. Anthony dedicated her life to establishing women’s right to vote\, as well as their right to own property\, the abolition of slavery\, and a host of other civil rights pursuits. Her collaborations with Frederick Douglass\, Katie Elizabeth Stanton\, and others demonstrated the power of partnerships in making social change. The National Susan B. Anthony’s annual wreath hanging is a modest but necessary attempt to honor life and legacy.
