Allison Hinman is the new President & CEO of the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House. She has nearly a decade of progressive experience in historic house museums where she provides visitors with opportunities to experience the power of place and connect with the changemakers of our past.
Hinman first joined the Anthony Museum as an intern and later returned as a visitor center manager. In 2021, she was hired as Deputy Director, a position in which she secured state and corporate grants for staff development and museum artifact preservation and expanded the museum’s partnership with Rochester Global Connections with participants visiting from Peru, Bolivia, Iraq, Jamaica, and elsewhere. She also led the organization through two arson incidents and coordinated fire remediation efforts.
As Chief Operating Officer, Hinman has overseen and directed all educational programming, care and stewardship of the historic properties, and ongoing safety, security, and risk management for the organization. In her brief time in this role, she has increased school group visits by 40% and strengthened relationships with area and out-of-state colleges and universities. In 2024, she served as project manager for renovations to the Carriage House, the museum’s programming space, to prepare the site to become an early voting location. The Anthony Museum welcomed over 6,000 early voters in Monroe County that year.
Before joining the Anthony Museum, Hinman served as Assistant Director of Development at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, NY and as Director of Development at the Seward House Museum in Auburn, NY. In addition to a B.A. in History from Westminster College, Hinman earned a M.A. in Museum Studies and a M.A. in Arts Leadership Administration from Syracuse University. She is a former member of the City of Rochester’s Preservation Board and has taught courses in museum studies and museum education at SUNY Oswego.
