Each year, the National Susan B. Anthony Museum and House commemorates the date of Anthony’s death by hanging a wreath on the door of her long-time residence at 17 Madison Ave. The wreath hanging is followed by a brief, public address by a member of the Museum’s staff.
Susan B. Anthony dedicated her life to establishing women’s right to vote, as well as their right to own property, the abolition of slavery, and a host of other civil rights pursuits. Her collaborations with Frederick Douglass, Katie Elizabeth Stanton, and others demonstrated the power of partnerships in making social change. The National Susan B. Anthony’s annual wreath hanging is a modest but necessary attempt to honor life and legacy.
